Thanks, but there's no much reason for me to update it manually either remote or directly. The idea is about the automatic update, so if the device finds an update, it installs it itself overnight or when it is not active.

    Hello,

    we wil implement a mode

    Fit to screen (keep ratio)

which will apply only if the picture is not really small, meaning that the condition will be something like maximum different with the screen less than 30%, otherwise more than that it will be really look too pixelated till not acceptable.

    That sounds good, thank you!

Sure, the images will be pixelated a bit, but does it really matter from 2-3 meters distance? On the other hand, this helps to use the whole large screen of your devices (the reason I bought it :).

I don't think adding one more display mode is a big pain from the development or UX points of views. Bigger image is better, anyway.

I tried that and it doesn't work for me. The images are from Instagram and are 800x800. They displayed with ~100px black borders at top and bottom and slightly larger borders from left and right.

Also the "Smart fill" option mentions distortion, that's not what I suggest. My idea is to upscale such images without distortion, so there are no borders on top and bottom and borders at the left and right should be smaller. The image should be still square, not distorted, but takes as much screen space as possible.

    Hello,

it is not easy to do this on video as it works differently.

also some users don’t want to look their videos. Adding an options to this makes the frame too complicated, it is already too complicated for some users and they complain.

    Regards,

    Arnaud

I will be missing that option for videos, especially if you implement the Instagram videos feature I asked. There's no much difference between videos and gifs from the end user point of view, so it may be surprising for customers.

    That's up to you :)
I will be happy to just get videos looped. Thanks for your prompt replies.

That sounds good to me. Maybe you should truncate the animation if it is longer than the interval, but in my case they will definitely be shorter.

    Thank you.

Well, the initial idea was to loop the animation for the same time we display static images. When I tried that on a previous firmware version it stops on the last frame so I decided that you simply hold the last frame for the rest of the slideshow period, but as you've fixed it my request looks odd now :)

What I want is to keep the animation running in loop for the period I set in the slideshow settings. Doesn't matter if it is a static image, or animation, doesn't matter if a gif is followed by a gif or jpeg - if I set the slideshow to switch each 5 minutes - it switches each 5 minutes, looping the animations if necessary.

The last time I updated the firmware was about two months ago. I've just checked with a new animated gif and it hanged at the first frame after playing itself once. I waited for about 20 seconds, but it didn't switch.

Then I noticed the new firmware notification, so I updated the device and tested that file again. This time it works as you described: plays once, hangs on the first frame for 3 seconds and then switches to the next image.

It is better than before, seems you guys made some improvements last month or two, but this is still not what I want. Imagine a funny gif that I would like to share with my family. I upload it to the device, but it shows up for just 5 seconds, so there are no chances for anyone to see it or say to someone else "look, that's funny". For that reason I set the slideshow delay to 5 minutes so we all have enough time to have a look. And from my point of view animated gifs should follow the same idea: 5 minutes of looping, not just one loop. Or at least this needs to be configurable somewhere.

Btw, I tested on a folder with two files: an animated gif and a static jpeg. The frame works in the "random" mode and I opened that folder and clicked "show all the images from that folder". It stucked on the first frame of the gif animation and I had to click "next" to switch to the other image. I was unable to reproduce it since then, tried about 10 times. This happened on the latest firmware, so maybe something is still wrong there.

Anyway, it would be very nice if you implement the looping options.
